3 Earth Lanterns to appear in DC's Green Lantern Corps movie + Hal Jordan's Age Revealed

DC comic's Green Lantern Corps
Ryan Reynolds as DC's Green Lantern (2011)
Ryan Reynolds as MARVEL's Deadpool (2016)

Before Ryan Reynolds' début as everyone's favourite Merc with a Mouth in February's hilarious Deadpool (& yes, that was his début as the character, he has never once played the character before & you cannot convince me otherwise), he was Hal Jordan in DC & Warner Bros' film Green Lantern. The 2011 blockbuster was less than a success & did not sit well with many DC fans & movie goers alike. This meant that any chance of potential sequels were dropped & the film was left to be forgotten whilst DC worked on more recognisable names such as Batman & Superman. That is until 2020 when DC plans to reboot the franchise with Green Lantern Corps.

2020 may seem like the setting of a futuristic sci-fi film but it's now only four years away, & we can't wait to see how this new adaptation of DC's green interstellar hero pans out.

With the 2011 production featuring Hal Jordan, fans speculated over whether the 2020 reboot would feature the return fan favourite Hal Jordan or a different lantern entirely such as the beloved John Stewart. Recently, thanks to a post from Latino Review, we now know that we could be getting to see both & possibly even a third. That's right, not one, not two but THREE Green Lanterns of Earth.

The website's source states that the film "won't just feature Hal Jordan and John Stewart--the two most popular Green Lanterns--but also Kyle Rayner was name-dropped as a third Green Lantern from Earth to appear in the film".

from top to bottom: Kyle Rayner, Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner & John Stewart, the Lanterns of Earth
Actor Matt Damon, 45

This wasn't all the site found out however, as they also recieved news on the age of Hal Jordan's character. Their source told them that "the studio wants [Hal Jordan] to be in the age range of, say, Matt Damon. The other two will be younger". Considering Matt Damon is now 45, & will be 49 by time Green Lantern Corps is released, it would appear that DC & WB wants take a similar approach with Hal as they did with Bruce Wayne in BatmanVSuperman: Dawn of Justice, who was played by 43 year old Ben Affleck.

What do you think of the more mature Batfleck approach to Hal Jordan? Are you excited at the prospect of three Green Lanterns or do you think less is more & the film should only focus on one Earthling Lantern? Sound off in the comments section below or contact us on Twitter at @NerdGeekAwesome

Either way I just hope the next film doesn't make us endure anything as ugly as this for the second time...
